Garden State motorists may find it pays to be aware of the rules about pedestrian crosswalks. Undercover police officers across southern New Jersey will spend the next few weeks posing as pedestrians to spot motorists who fail to yield to them in crosswalks, as required by state law. The Pedestrian Decoy Program was announced today by the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety. It begins Monday and will continue through Sept. 13. Motorists who don't yield are subject to warning citations or possibly tickets. Those cited could face a $100 fine, plus court costs and two points on their driving record. Officials say 20 to 25 percent of traffic fatalities in New Jersey involve pedestrians, compared to about 10 percent nationwide. AP

this is great i hope they put a bunch of these guys on forest ave. catch a few of the guys who are in such a rush they come inches from running down women and children
great idea but it sounds like the state is running short on money so they will think of anything practically to start ticketing for

to anon 10:57 - i'm all about protecting people crossing the street but something that should be noted is the law says to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and many people cross where ever they feel like crossing so question is will the driver or pedestrian be cited because i believe its unlawful to cross street mid block
Its about time. I get honked often by our own people when istop for a pedestrian at a crosswalk.common sense and mentchlechkite should rule
