BREAKING NEWS: Police Officer Tickets Hatzolah Member On Call

BREAKING NEWS: (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO & PHOTOS below) (as witnessed by a TLS reporter) A Lakewood Police Officer, John Wilson, just gave a summons to a Hatzolah member (Unit 31) after claiming he pulled up too close to the scene of the pedestrian hit and did not obey him when telling him to move. The Hatzolah member pulled up to the intersection at 7th and Clifton with lights on and parked his car right up to the white line of the intersection when officer Wilson yelled at him to get back into his car and move it. The Hatzolah member immediately got back into his car-before attending to the patient-and moved back his car. While the Hatzolah member was attending to the patient, the officer called in his plate over the radio and when the member returned to his car, the officer gave him the summons for not obeying a police officer. VIDEO & PHOTOS of the incident will be posted shortly. (Mobile users click here to view video on youtube).

some people have all the power with a badge and a gun, but without it they are powerless..is that what really makes him a man. Good luck on beating the ticket to the Hatzolah member.

forcing a emt memeber to move his car before assisting a patient is uncalled for and the the cop should receive a ticket for getting in the way of an emt/first responder and delaying treatment.

I happen to know Wilson, he's a nice guy! BUT, with the prevalant attitude at LPD, you never know who our friends are... There are higher ups in the township who don't have our interests in mind. Vehamyvin yuvin!!

I think Officer Wilson should start going to all First Aid calls and he should be the compliance officer as to what is a sufficient response..

In addition, he should be dispatched to fire calls where he will be able to direct the fire dept as to how many trucks are needed...."Sorry,guys...only 2 pumpers and 3 fire police allowed here...Whoever doesn't listen to me , will get a ride in my police basket to Police Headquarters where I will show you my new box of crayons"

Officer Wilson always seemed like a nice guy this is suprising. Although do you think he would have done this to members of Lakewood First- Aid or fellow P.D. members (and I agree that he shouldn't). Danny is a great guy and I hope this all gets worked out.

However please do not write imature and stupid comments such as "he should rot in hell" or "he is a Jew hater" many people reading this (and many do) will think that all of us are dumb enough to say something so asinine. It amazes me that you would let this be posted.

Guys lets respond with class and try to think 10 seconds before writing something. He is a dog? he should come with a helmet to court? please!! We are still in golus!!!
The officer may be wrong (which appears to be the case without hearing his side) but that is no excuse for this rhetoric.

Can't believe what I see said...

There's no question that this is a guy w/ a badge that has an attitude issue. I don't if that's his case in general, but it certainly is today!

The officer behind him appeared uncomfortable w/ the situation (most likely thinking that Wilson is a looney) but still did his best to maintain a level of respect.

I've witnessed hundreds of emergency calls (fire, accident, etc..) over the years and I believe this is a real first for chutzpah..

And lastly, my little kid heard the story and asked me if all cops are so mean, and I told that is absolutely not so. The overall majority are very special people that truly deserve our respect.. but every once in awhile a nasty one slips through the cracks..

I drove past this scene today, I thought it was a fatal accident with all of the Ambulances and emergency vehicles. Hopefully the victim is OK. You all have such nice things to say about the cop, wow, and someone said the cop is the anti semite????? Amazing. I think we should watch what we wish for.

Dissappointed said...

To those FEW that say we should post with "respect" blah blah blah...An officer that has total disregard for human life and pain does not deserve an ounce of respect from the citizens who he's HIRED to protect. Let him go back to police academy and start all over. Would he have done the same to a firefighter or a Lakewood EMS responder??! We all know the answer and there lies the problem.

Anonymous said...

It sounds to me as if this police officer, or any other official personnel, just "happens" to do something "against" a member of the Jewish community; they are automatically labeled an "enemy" and are verbally lashed to pieces.
Talk of these folks not knowing who they are dealing with, etc. What's that about?! Honestly, why not let the court, or the officer and ticket holder, work it out.
Exactly who are they "dealing with"? I'd like to personally know myself.
Should we tremble and fear ever going against the Jewish community for fear of threats against us? Is this truly the message you wish to get out there in the Lakewood community? Not a good thing, folks.
There are consequences for those who break the law. Whether you get a speeding ticket; park in a forbidden zone; drive drunk; drive without proper license and insurance, etc.; or whether you bribe inspectors who inspect rental units. Which certainly has come to light in recent news.
I have a problem with "some" who truly believe themselves "untouchable". Your not.
Let Officer Wilson do his job, as he sees fit. I'm sure they will fight it in court, as others have fought their tickets in court; which some were certainly further investigated because of "tampering" and lying.
Do we really need this kind of reputation to continue to follow us?
Let's all be good little boys and girls and if we do something wrong; accept the consequences of our actions. If you haven't done anything wrong, then justice will certainly serve. At least that's how it's suppose to work.

It is great how people can comment not knowing what really happended if Dan got right back in his car then it would be a diffent story but that was not what happened. Also to make comments about the bike makes one sound stupid I believe some of the cops like bike patrol.
Also Hatzala needs to slow it down a little their driving is going to cause an accident. Don't forget the township also has EMT's. Really how many responders do you need at an accident?

30 year resident said...

Our Lakewood cops put their lives on the line FOR ALL CITIZENS--and even tons of non-citizens--every single day in ways that cops in most towns don't have to worry about. They, more than anything, put their lives, and the lives of their families on the line doing their best for the most ungrateful, sue-happy community on the planet. Those of you who are condemning this guy should be thanking him, and every cop you see--because while you are content to judge people for not being like you, the cops in Lakewood do not decide who they will help based on whether they are like themselves or not. They serve and protect--period.

How many responders are needed at an accident is not for the police to decide. Just as it is not up to them to decide how many firefighter are required or how many alarms the fire chief is requesting.
For all those that believe that the police officer was right and that proper parking takes precedence over patient care, I would suggest that they contact Hatzolah with their personal information so that Hatzolah can make sure that all traffic & parking laws are followed should you ever need Hatzolah. If you do not live in Lakewood, I will be happy to forward the information to your local response agencies. I am sure that you are willing to sacrifice your life in standing by your conviction & belief in the paramount importance of obeying the law even when a life is at stake.

When you are responding to an emergency call time is of the essence. They have lights on and sirens when responding, why can't people move over for a more safer path for the emerg. vehicles. Don't blame them for coming to help you too fast!!!

We don't look at ourselves as untouchables at all. Do you ever see posts here going ballistic that just "someone"got a ticket. Oh and btw when was the last time an Orthodox Jew was ticketed and/or arrested for DUI,robbery, murder, attempted murder...? QWe are talking here about a first responder who's treatment for a patient was hindered by an overzealous cop. WEe DO WANT TO BE TREATED EQUALLY. You know that this would've never happened to any other first responer whether a firefighter or a Lakewood EMS member. This is why we complain. There is something called common sense. I don't believe for a second that Dan ignored the officer. I DO NOT know all the facts but a Hatzolah member would never disobey a police officer. Even if it is true that he did not move his car immediately maybe he didn't hear the officer as he was in a cahotic situation and was rushing to render first aid to the victim. "WE" care about human life obviously more than you. What I do know is that there was a large number of witnesses and it doesn't sound very good for the officer in this case. Oh, and btw don't try to exploit recent news that actually implicated more of "yours" than "ours".

Anonymous said...

Al these comments beat around the bush. The issue here is simple: a police officer ticketed a first responder while attending to a pedestrian struck. Sounds pretty strange to me. You wouldn't catch most officers on the force doing such a thing, and for good reason.

This is "mr 30 years", here. Funny you should assume that I am a man or a cop. I'm a woman and a grateful civilian. I am grateful to the police, and ALL emergency responders in this community who act in a responsible way. Too much help is no help at all. If the people who are in charge of promoting safety in an emergency tell someone who is prohibiting it to move, they should move. I have every confidence that if I, or my children, were in danger that the Lakewood PD would be there to assist us in an appropriate manner. And I wasn't just talking about the Jewish community being a difficulty--but you said it yourself.

I wud guess u a hard working woman for the last 30 years and yur taxes to be more then it is and was wud not make u to happy, ohh and all those property taxes that all of the jewish community pays and don't even use the public school system!! Where wud all that $$$ come from???

TO Mr. 30 YEAR RESIDENT,
Nobody is negating the hard work the entire Lakewood Police Dept. does on a daily basis. All the hard work can be negated in the minds of the community when one Police Officer demonstrates that opening up Clifton Ave. for traffic comes before patient care. Officer Wilson had no idea what the responding member's qualifications were or the qualifications of the members already on scene. He also had no idea as to what level of care the patient required. The responder's car was not blocking traffic. It was just parked close to the cross walk. Only one thing bothers PO Wilson and one thing only. In his small mind, he could not understand why so many Jews have to show up to care for a patient - the same reason why Dr. Peltz was once kicked off a cardiac arrest call by a cop. I'm sure you and Police officer Wilson don't stand around at a fire scene wondering why so many fire trucks are necessary. Do you question why the Fire Chief has so many lines stretched and so many ladders raised?! I didn’t think so! Please leave it up to the professionals and don't question how many EMTs are needed. Now years of hard work by both police & members of the community in building mutual respect (and yes - the police do need mutual respect if they are to be effective) has been destroyed by one bad apple.
Also, Office Wilson was in violation of his own department’s policy by assuming the role of EMS command and by preventing patient care. He also failed to call a Supervisor to the scene before issuing a ticket to a member of service as required by Department policy.

The issue is not whether or not he was right in parking there in the first place . That may be debatable . But once he was parked ,common sense and the public interest dictate that he be allowed to tend to the medical emergency before being asked to move his car . If a police officer asks you to do something that common sense dictates may bring harm to another civilian ,you do not have to do it . If you follow his orders and the civilian dies or gets hurt ,YOU will get sued ,because common sense tells you that in that case you do not have to follow the officer . There have been cases in history wwhere people did the wrong thing and claimed they were just following the direction of officers ,but they were still judged as being wrong for not following their conscience .

Anonymous said...

Why doesnt a cicilian witness file a complaint against Officer for obstructing the care of an accident victim ? Let him have to defend his actions in court ,the same way the Hatzolah member has to . We should not be cvalling anybody names ,but he should also have to defend his actions ,which to most people were not in line with common sense .

Anonymous said...

I think "Mr. 30 years" is here way too long already. 30 years is a really long time to be in one place. Watching a town grow exponentially into a vibrant Jewish community can really take a toll on someones health. I think it's time to move to Howell or Jackson. Better yet move to Alaska,I don't think you'll have to worry that the "Jews will take over YOUR town".

Anonymous said...

Common sense must ne applied by a police officer in every situation . It does not look like it was applied by the officer here . An investigation needs to be done whether this was a one time lapse or whether this offioer ,in general lacks common sense and the ability to make reasonable decisions in emergency situations . If the latter is the case ,then changes to his status are warranted .

Anonymous said...

I still haven't heard anything from President Obama on the issue. Surprising, truly surprising.

Hey, there! The police are the professionals! Not some of the volunteers who have the same qualifications as I do (as a Red Cross certified CPR provider). I'm glad that these guys are there, but they are subject to follow who is really in charge, not themselves. And yes, I am a taxpayer, and my children go to private school, too--out of Lakewood, even! I choose to send my children out of district, and do not begrudge people who send their kids to public school, utilizing their own tax money and that which we are obliged to pay. To the first guy who responded to me--you seriously need a dictionary. I'm not sure why you think I don't enjoy life...applying your own feelings to others, perhaps? And to himself and the others who responded--stop calling me "Mr." I am an educated Woman, a professional in my field, a taxpayer and law-abiding citizen. You are confusing the issues, and are reacting in anger to a situation that you do not have the facts to respond appropriately to.

Anonymous said...

The question still is why do you need so many people there? What is Hatzolah EMT's or professional recuers? And please do not answer if you do not know. Was the guys life still in danger since he was already being cared for by serval personal? Most responders just stand there because there are too many responding anyway.

You should try that.

FACT IS:

THIS WONT STAND UP IN COURT, AS EMS HAVE CONTROL OF A CAR OR PEDESTRIAN STRUCK SCENE. EMS CAN TELL A COP TO MOVE HIS CAR BUT NOT VIS-VERSA.

SORRY OFFICER, LEARN THE LAW.

Our society may have a higher regard for saving a life than society in general . That is why Hatzolah was founded . It is better to err on the side of caution by having too many people on a call 90% of the time ,than Ch"v having too few even once in ten years and having somebody die from it . We look at every casualty as our brother or father and treat him as if it was our closest relative . The general EMS are fine people and do great work ,but they dont think about a victim as if he was a relative . Im not saying they are required to . When a police officer gets shot or hurt ,you will see 100 police cars and 30 ambulances at the scene Why ? Because its THEIR BROTHER that got injured and everybody wants to help .

Anonymous said...

To mRs 30 years .
I will assume you are well meaning .

Please note that in a medical emergency ,the EMS are the professional ,not the police . I think if your life was in danger, you would want to be treated by a trained EMS member and not officer Wilson . This is basic common sense ,besides being the standard protocol .

Anonymous said...

12:39pm it depends on if Hatzolah are EMT's they may just be profesional rescuers and that is the same thing officer wilson is. Are most of or even some of Hatzolah EMT's?

Anonymous said...

30 year resident,
While you may think you have a good grasp of the story based on your natural instict to side with law enforcement but you are missing some basic knowladge in Standard Operating Procedures for EMS patient care.
1)You are confusing yourself as a CPR instructor with a certified Emergency Medical Technician who is part of a recognized official EMS response agency.
2)You are required to yield the right of way for their private vehicles by New Jersey State law. You as a citizen cannot decide that their are enogh responders so the hell with them.
3)Patient care at an emergency scene is under the jurisdiction of EMS whether Volunteer or paid. This is New Jersey law despite everyone's respect for law enforcement.
4)It is not up to anyone whether civilian or law enforcement to decide that there are enough EMTs on the scene. Your status as a CPR instructor bystander does not give you any knowledge as to what recources are required. That is a decision to be made by the Incident Commander together with the Dispacher.

I think your post is very telling as to what PO Wilson's attitude was. According to all the winesses the response vehicle was not in the cross walk and was not interfering with traffic which was anyway stopped due to the patient in the street. His whole problem was that he felt there were too many EMTs on location which in the first case was not true and secondly was not his decision to make.
And please - as a CPR intructor, please tell your studants that if Wilson should show up to a CPR call and tell them to stop CPR so they can move their cars because the meter expired - they do not have to listen!

I cant answer that question on a technical level .

On a real and common sense level , Id bet you anything that if your life was in danger ,you would want a Hatzolah member treating you and Taking CHARGE ,over officer Wilson , Its a no brainer and any non biased person would feel the same . Common sense trumps technicalities in such situations . I bet that the VAST majority of Lakewood officers ,other than Officer wilson ,would NOT have issued a summons in this situation ,because I want to believe that most of our force has common sense . Whether or not he should have pulled up close to the crosswalk is irrelevant . The officer could have given him a lecture for the future after the patient left . Issuing a summons in this situation ,when he knew good and well that it would inflame the situation, was to quote Obama "Stupidity " at best and hopefully not ,Bias at worst .

30 YEAR RESIDENT(oh and btw that was mr"S):

I am the commenter at 11:54. I actually know quite well how to live amongst ALL types of people. I don't have to TRY it I PRACTICE it. I lived opposite a non-Jew who after a year of living next to me once tearfully told me that I was the ONLY person in the entire neighborhood that had welcomed him to the neighborhood. And btw I was the ONLY Orthodox Jew in the area. I used to drive another neighbor to a local store all the time since he drank too much due to stress(his children were fighting in Iraq and Afhganistan)as "noone else was interested in him"(his words)and he was a long time resident of that neighborhood and lakewood too. I bought his children a welcome home gift when they returned from overseas. When his wife wanted to divorce him because of his becoming an alcoholic as well as other issues he came to me(20 years younger than him) asking for my help and advice. I once picked up a Mexican walking alone at night as he looked somewhat intoxicated and I wanted him to get home safely. Do you want me to continue?? Just wondering, did you or your children EVER do something like that to any of your neighbors? How about for a Jew?? I was not trying to make this a racial or religous issue,it was you who did. I quote from your first comment "because while you are content to judge people for not being like you"... You were the one that started with the "you" and "us".

ProudJew, I am sorry that you felt that you had to defend yourself as a good person to me. I tend to assume the best about people; that they are naturally good, or even exceptional, as you appear to be. As I said, I like all kinds of people, too, and help them depending on their need, and not any other criteria.

I was responding to the suggestion that, 'I think "Mr. 30 years" is here way too long already. 30 years is a really long time to be in one place. I see, too, that there are two 11:54 posts. If you are not that one, than I was not talking to you. As I said, I believe the best about people, and even think that the other guy is good-natured and well meaning--very, very, very deep down, somewhere...

There is too much misunderstanding when you are not face-to-face. I think I'm done here.

Dear Proudjew:
"Rot in hell, get sued, die!" This is what I've been hearing from your community. You are truly loving people. Is this what Judaism teaches? Your children are taught (and I learned this from Jewish neighborhood children) that Goy are not to be trusted, are going to hell and should not be helped if in trouble. It is a great mercy that I have met many very good-hearted, honest Jews to counteract the very negative, vengeful, blood thirsty hateful Jews I'm meeting in these comments.

Would you want the evil things you are wishing on others to be visited on you? If anyone disagrees with you, "they are killing your children," "anti semitic," "not allowing you to live," and so on. Anything to provide guilt to the person disagreeing whether or not the person is in the right. It's a deflective measure to steer the offensive person away from the truth of the matter. It is done very skillfully.

You Proudjew (and you should be proud for looking to help and consider worthy a Goy), are not alone. I have many Jews in my neighborhood who are truly kind and DO NOT LIKE what's happening in Lakewood any more than I do. The corruption, the hate of some of you is overwhelming. Perhaps they should look to their Rabbe and ask if this is what G-D wants of them. Is not love thy neighbor something you've been taught? If not, it should be.

I also have lived here 30+ years and I have seen the town change into something I don't recognize. And I do resent being told that we who don't agree with you should move to Jackson or Howell. Afterall, your community is moving into those towns also.

This Lakewood Scoop is a forum for hate mongering Jews and Goys, but also let it be said, for level- headed, G-d loving Jews and Goys.

Let's try to get along. We're all in this together and we'll all have to face G-d at the end.

Shalom

Proudjew,

Well, that's a shame, then. I think that if you go back and read my entries, and read yours, you'll see that I didn't make it about race, and went out of my way to say it shouldn't be. Hey, I have an idea--let's each go for a walk and get away from the computers and say a prayer for each other. Good for everyone's health!

Sincerely, and seriously for the last time,

All these comments are making a huge Chillul Hashem or Desecration of G-d's name.

Let me quote you a mishna in Avos:(Chapter 4, Mishna 5)

"Rabbi Yochanan ben (son of) Beroka said, whoever desecrates the Name of Heaven in secret will be paid back in public. Whether one acts unintentionally or intentionally, [both are accountable] regarding desecration of the Name."
In the vernacular, the term "Chillul Hashem" is understood to refer to public or conspicuous misbehavior on the part of Jews.

When a Jew, especially a visibly Orthodox one, publicly sins or otherwise creates a scene, the image of the Jew and Judaism is lowered in the eyes of the onlookers -- both Jew and Gentile.

Tragically, it casts a negative light on the very Torah the Jew supposedly upholds and ultimately, on G-d Himself.

Our mishna makes it clear that Chillul Hashem is not limited to sins done in the public's eye. Our mishna began: "Anyone who desecrates the Name of Heaven *in private*...."

Any action which causes G-d's Presence to be "removed" or less evident in this world is a form of Chillul Hashem. If a person sins, even in private, to some extent he is driving away G-d's Presence.

My point in all this is very simple. All you "commentators" who are sitting behind computer screens and are posting nasty and vile comments, are creating an immense Chillul Hashem. Anything posted on a blog is out there for all the world to see. I know for a fact that many non-Jews read this blog AND it's comments because I hear all about it.
By posting these silly and thoughtless comments you are creating a tremendous desecration of G-d's name! Is it worth it?! just to be able to vent your silly mind?! With a couple of keystrokes you besmirch an entire community. How dare you?!
Have you no fear of the approaching Ymei Hadin. Which by the way doesn't atone for Chillul Hashem!

Instead of wasting your time and energy in dishonoring and badmouthing people, why don't you concentrate on bringing honor to yourself, your community and most importantly your Creator!
Concentrate your efforts on showing that "We in the Torah observant community" do things differently. "We" do hold ourselves to a higher standard.
and that "most of us" try to be a light unto the nations!

Not "exploiting" any recent news; which you indicate had more "our" arrests than "your" arrests. If you happen to truly believe that residents of Lakewood don't see a blantant pattern of "favoritism" you are blind as a bat.
"You" do something wrong and everybody gets all upset. Explain the statement made about "if you mess with one you mess with all of us" does that not scream of what I'm saying?!!!
Anybody, even EMT folks can break the law! Deal with it in a more mature fashion. And who in this county would ever believe "you" are treated UNequally?!! Not one!!! You are treated far more equally and if you need examples of it; I have a long list brother.
Beating up a teenager, for walking across "your" lawn is a great example; yet everyone claimed this honor student did something so horrific...Just another fine example of what we're talking about...Can you ever imagine dozens of African Americans surrounding the Police Department "demanding" someone be released; and than having it DONE?! So please let's not "imagine" "your" NOT treated equally. You simple cannot defend every single action that is taken against you IF you break the law. It doesn't look good, no matter how you try to color it.
As far as, "us" and "you", I'm one of YOU - so please refrain from such comments. Right is right; wrong is wrong. This kind of outrage over something SO simple is just not necessary. It only brings attention that is not needed. Wait for the big stuff before you blow your guns.

4:11,
I have to disagree with you very strongly regarding your insinuation that the Hatzolah member on the scene made a chilul hashem!
Just the opposite the mere fact that was evident to everyone there that a jew places an emphasis on hatzolas nefashos while the cop places an emphasis on trying to clear up traffic (which was hogwash anyway - the entire street was blocked off & the member parked at the curb wasn't blocking anything or anyone) was a hugh Kidush Hashem. What bothered the cop the most that so many units responded so fast -that Hatzolah responds to a pedestrian struck like it was their own brother - that's the kidush hashem!
A few years ago a police officer was hit by a car on County Line on Friday night and was slightly injured. Cops were responding like bats out of hell - one after the next. They were still coming long after the first Officers realized it wasn't so serious. Well all the other cops besides Wilson and Mrs. 30 year resident understand that that's how Hatzolah responds to every single yid that needs their help and that is why most Police Officers respect Hatzolah and do everything possible on scene to assist.
THANK YOU HATZOLAH FOR BEING MEKADESH SHEM SHOMAYIM!

While it saddens me to see an emergency responder ticketed, it doesn't surprise me in Our town.. There are two sides to this story -I'm sure of that. Having served the community for over 35 as an volunteer emergency responder(now retired) and working in Lakewood I've been round the block as they say and witnesses allot when it comes to responding to emergency calls. On two occasions in my younger crazier days I was pulled over by police for going through a red light and driving too fast to a call - guilty as charged and learned my lesson. What I see today scares the heck out of me- The driving of first responders to many of the first aid call and occasional a fire call is putting the general public in danger.. I have all the freq. plugged into my scanner so I know what going on -allot of the calls should be considered NON Emergency-Guys please slow down. Best advice given to me was obey the speed limit and park your car at least one telephone pole away from the incident and walk up calmly -Don't add to the confusion of pulling right up to the scene and jumping out like a mad man.. What's up with the RED lights and sirens in personal cars - They are illegal -only the 3 Fire chiefs , EMS captain and the Captain or head leader (one )of Hotzolah should have them in their POV... if your not in that group its Blue lights and no siren -Both FIRE OR EMS.. read the law N.J.A.C 13.24-5- Just because we chose to help our communities doesn't exempt anyone from following ICS and the laws of the state.. With that being said to all Lakewood emergency workers -(the 3 EMS groups and Fire) keep up the good work and G-D bless you for all that you do.. and to the First responders Cowboys-SLOW DOWN and don't become part of the problem...
To the general public -step way back from the scene let the responders do their job -don't add to the confusion- plus you can read all about in "The Lakewood Scoop"

THE REAL PROBLEM IS that this part of lakewood is very peacful not much real work for cops to do so what they keep them selves busy with is all these little petty things ticketing as much as possiable and going to bmg every 5 minutes to ticket cars i think the amount of cops in low crime areas should be lowered and they should be moved to high crime areas

At the least , Mr wilson was not very smart in doing what he did . I bet you that 98 % of the force would not have written that summons . You can be right or be smart Im not sure he was either in this case

I Think everyone should give Johnny the benefit ofm doubt and let him and LPD deal with Hatz on their own. i personally know hes a nice helpful guy. he must have had a hard day etc...... its only a ticket which can be resolved no arrestes guns etc. and Kudos to Reb Daniel for keeping his cool Keep it up Hatzalah

I think all of you people Jewish or not but mostly Jewish should just shut your mouth's about the entire situation, your not a police officer and police officer's know the law way better than you ever will. You weren't there so you have no clue, Oh and just because your Jewish doesn't give you any right to be treated better than anyone else.
The Lakewood EMT responders were already there helping the person who was hurt. Officer Wilson was doing his job their all cops for a reason to keep you people in place if you don't like it and have such a HUGE problem with this then move out of this state FOR GOOD.

porky said...

WOW.....all the personal attacks over a ticket. As someone with more facts than most of the people who have commented so far I feel this is blown way out of proportion. I have been told that the cyclist was being treated by three and possibly four hatzolah members already and it was known that the injuries were not serious.Dan was asked to move his car , as were others who complied with Wilsons requests , because they were creating a hazardous condition which could have caused someone else to be injured . His request was a simple one and Dan was the only one who had a problem with it. We want so much from our police but when they do their jobs we are fast to critize them , to call them crazy and arrogant and lacking in common sense. We have got to start looking at this from both sides and understand that when we break the law we may get punished for it. I was speaking today with an old friend , a longtime lakewood first aider who told me of many instances where the police had clashed with them over driving habits. The two sides always worked it out because there was respect. Respect--- thats something that we must work on if we want respect we must stop critizing the police everytime they do their jobs. Finally I have met Ptl Wilson several times at different events and at Shoprite and have found him to be very professional and pleasant to talk to he has a good reputation around town.

the last anon a 625pm is right about one thing being this is a public forum read by many people besides from our community we shud write with respect and not vent our private feelings where all can read them
and its obvious that he's not meshelonu which shows us how many read these posts
though i fully agree with the general sentiments written that
this particular pd member over stepped his bounds especially when the hatzolo member went right back into his car and moved it before going to treat the patient when he was asked and its obvious this particular officer was flexing his power to show who's boss etc
we should let the court decide this if necessary hatzalo will pursue it to a higher court in order to make sure that the few rotton apples dont impede on hatzalo being able to save lives effectivley w/o any interference
from losers on the force

Anonymous said...

over the years their have been a few instances of pd interference with hatzala members but they are
a minor fraction of the many calls hatazala answers too each and every day
in general lakewood pd is very understanding and sensetive to the needs of our community going above and beyond of course in every organization you'll have your few nasty attitude rouge cops but in general they are a group of sympathetic willing to work with our community guys who deserve our thanks and support for putting themselves on the line for each of us every single day

Anon 6:25,

You have some nerve telling me that I should "shut my mouth" regarding the improper behavior/attitude of tax-payer hired Mr. Wilson. And contrary to your ignorant claim, I also don't believe that said Mr. Wilson will ever know the laws better than I do. Finally, why do you specifically choose to inflame what is clearly just a uniquely idiotic decision by the particular officer - by injecting your assessment regarding the faith of the commentors. This has zero to do with faith, race, or religion, and everything to do Mr. Wilson's abuse of power. (So stop trying to defend him by saying that he did this on behalf of all the cops.. you and everyone else know that's baloni) Oh, and btw.. Let's not forget his previous record of perjury while on the stand..

If you want to live in the state of New Jersey, you need to abide by the laws of the state of New Jersey. Just because you are Jewish does not mean that you do not have to obey laws. Anytime a police officer looks at a person of the Jewisih Faith he is labeled as being anti-semetic. There is an easy answer...Obey the laws. Maybe the police should start video taping some of the things said to us on motor vehicle stops and put it on YouTube. You know, show the other side of the story. As a Police Officer with over 25 years of experience I'm quite sure all the people expressing their "outrage" would be pretty embarassed if I started publishing some of this. You know what? Game On!!!! Be prepared.

Blogs are like a barbeque. When initially lit the fire is great with flames leaping in the air. As the time moves past all you have is simmering coals and embers. When enough time has passed the coals just die out. One thing is clear what Officer Wilson has done has undone alot of the trust that most officers in the PD enjoy from the town. It's truly a shame because he is from the FEW rotten apples. Unfortunately these incidnets have a major impact on the publics perception of the police department as a whole.

while we can agree obey the law is a must you claim to be a cop let me asked you when was the last time s/o from the community held a gun to you or even threatened you beside minor traffic violations would you please detail which laws we don't follow ? is it assaults muggings rapes domestic fights weapon charges or burgleries or any other voilent crimes
when you start posting your videos on youtube please be fair and post all your recording because at least when a cop does heroic work this web site is the firs to commend

You claim to be a cop. Now I don't know if that's true or not. As a previous commenter pointed out;since you "have 25 years experience" under your belt, can you please tell us if you can even remember ONCE arresting an Orthodox Jew for ANY sort of violent activity,rape....? How about D.U.I.? Now don't think too hard there please! And you know what, go ahead and publish those videos on Youtube. I really would like to see the terrible things said to you at traffic stops. But maybe show us a nice gunfight in Woodlake,Highpoint,Golfview...too. Do you maybe have any videos of the 15 year old stabbing the other student at the close of the school year? How about the two Mexicans that were killing themselves on Clifton and 4th? Or the "brawl" in Golfview involving some 40 people?? Can you show us some videos of how a Non-Jewish guy reacts when his car gets rear-ended or the like? Yeah I know things can get just a bit violent sometimes. We want to see the action too,you know.
Can you find me anywhere in this blog that someone inferred that because he's Jewish he is immune from obeying the law? The issue here is not about Jews receiving a ticket. The issue is that an EMT received a ticket while tending to a pedestrian struck. I don't believe you will ever catch an officer doing such a thing to a firefighter or Lakewood EMS unit so it seems like maybe this officer does indeed treat Jews differently. Now think about that honestly and don't just shoot your mouth off without giving it some serious thought. Do you seriously believe that Officer Wilson would have acted the same had this been a firefighter?? I think that is the ONLY issue here.

Dear Chief Lawson said...

To Anon. 9:42 pm

I sincerely hope you are not a Law Enforcement Officer. For if you are, you are an embarrassment to your brethren. As an Officer of the law it would be expected of you to display a little more common sense then to post threats in a public forum, such as "Game On!!!! Be prepared."

Adding to anon. 11:00 pm's comments, which definitely has a lot of truth to it, let me ask you; when was the last time you were referred to in our community as a” pig”? I don’t recall the lyrics of any of the music that my children listen to, talk about busting a cap in the po po. When was the last time, when on duty that you felt in danger when interacting with someone from the Jewish community?) Putting all this aside lets look at this objectively,

A number of bloggers responded negatively to this incident. Let’s keep in mind that not all of the comments were negative. What I mean by that is that disagreeing with the actions of the police officer in this story is everyone’s right and that does not make a comment negative. How one chooses to disagrees is a different story. If they choose to post idiotic and immature comments then that would constitute calling a comment negative. However, keep in mind that is their constitutionally protected prerogative. But in no way does the ranting of a few give you the right to trample on the rights of the many.

You write; “If you want to live in the state of New Jersey, you need to abide by the laws of the state of New Jersey. Just because you are Jewish does not mean that you do not have to obey laws. Anytime a police officer looks at a person of the Jewisih Faith he is labeled as being anti-semetic. There is an easy answer...Obey the laws”

That’s a generalization if I ever heard one. Yes, there are Jewish people who may give you attitude when you pull them over. Just like there are “ “(please fill in the blank with any race, religion, ethnicity and/or combination as you see fit.) These people are wrong; and that’s were it ends. Now all Jews have a problem with the Police? I respect all Police Officers as do the vast majority of Jews living in Lakewood. You are an Officer of the law, sworn to protect, uphold and enforce the law, yet you seem to have forgotten the most basic rights us simple civilians retain, and dare to trample on this Nation’s great Constitution.

So how do you plan on implementing your new “game on, be prepared “approach?

Will you be asking people on future traffic stops if they read and post on TLS?

This is the worst kind of profiling I have ever seen.

To Chief Lawson;
I believe that it behooves you to find out who this Officer is and take appropriate action. I don’t claim to know the law but in the very least I think this is conduct unbecoming of an Officer. I and as I’m sure, the rest of the community certainly don’t condone breaking the law and then crying anti-Semitism. But we certainly feel that there may be anti-Semitism involved when an Officer can make statements about a community at large. Not to mention that the community in question is about the most peaceful, non violent and law abiding community you have ever served.

Please let us know if you disagree.

P.s. For those who don’t obey the law or who give attitude to a police officer when they pull you over, its time to grow up and take responsibility for your actions.

I am sure just like most the comments on this blog the cop if really a cop wrote it out of quick frustration knowing what the pd has to deal with and having a few but rude people say mean things about Wilson, he has given a lot to this community. Wilson just like all of the pd does his job to the best of his ablity and it is hard to hear people say such mean things about such a good person.

9:42,
If you are really a cop for 25 years, you would realize that Hatzolah has been there for you for the last 25 years as well. There is a reason why Jason looked so uncomfortable and the other cops got the heck out of there so quickly on sunday.
You beleive in enforcing New Jersey State law? make sure to enforce it if Wilson should ever code on 2nd st. Takes quite a while to respond downtown - sitting at all those lights with the little blue flashing light. And then it takes quite some time to find a legal parking spot downtown so as not to create a "hazardous situation". Oh I forgot you can always call the real EMTs fron Pine & New Hampshire but one of their rigs is down again and the other rig is still waiting for a bed in the ER - you can always tone out the vollies 3 or 4 times and then have Quality start out from Toms River. Whoops - I forgot most of the cops have AEDs as well. Wilson probably knows that most of the guys didn't do that great on the EMT portion of the academy. After all they went into law enforcement to be cops not have someone vomit all over them in back of a rig. "you mean if he has no pulse we're suppossed to try to defib him?!?!" That would make a great eulogy for him "John was not just willing to enforce every detail of title 39 when it came to some poor shlub under a car - he was even willing to sacrafice his own life and made sure his buddies had every responding vehicle park perfectly before he was treated".
"Porky",
please explain what hazardous situation existed by an EMT aprking his vehicle at the curb of a side street after Clifton ave. was already shut down to traffic. Which other members were also told to move their vehicle prior to treating the patient who Wilson determined had "non life threatening" injuries. If that was the case then please take the time to explain which model of management is allowing Wilson to still be on the streets.

AS A LONGTIME LAKEWOOD RESIDENT, AND A FIREFIGHTER IN TOWN, I AGREE THAT THE POLICE DEPT. WOULDN'T GIVE A FIRE FIGHTER A TICKET FOR THE REASON DAN WAS TICKETED. WE LEARNED A LONG TIME AGO NOT TO PARK CLOSE TO THE SCENE, AND WALK UP TO THE SCENE, WHICH ALSO GIVES YOU THE TIME TO COMPLETE THE SIZE UP OF WHATEVER SCENE YOU HAPPEN TO BE WORKING. LETS ALL USE OUR HEADS TO GET THE JOB DONE, WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM ARENT WE?

WHERE WAS OFFICER BUTTERWORTH WHEN WE NEEDED HIM THE MOST...OI VEY

Anonymous said...

11:45,
First of all I would like to say that you guys are all nuts for running into burning buildings for little (paid) or no (vollie) pay. on behalf of every citizen of Lakeood you guys are not appreciated enough and deserve a big thank you!
As a witness to the entire incident, I would like to make a couple of quick points:
1) the EMT was not ticketed for the way he parked. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HOW HE PARKED IN THE FIRST PLACE AND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WAY HE PARKED AFTER WILSON TOLD HIM TO MOVE. He was ticketed for failing to obey a Police officer after he told Wilson that he would report him to a supervisor for delaying patient care and telling him that no more EMS was required.
2)Everyone should be on the same team but PO Wilson didn't seem to understand that. Instead of coming over and asking "what do you guys need?" he let his personal bias get in the way. It was clear by the way he acted that he could not understand the concept of one EMT after the next pulling up in their POVs.
3)The system of EMTs taking 10 minutes to get a rig (while waiting at red lights with their blue lights flashing) might be acceptable in other areas but is not accepatable in Lakewood where the community places a premium on the value of human life. You may feel good about putting your life on the line running into a fire but you would feel perfectly comfortable sitting at a red light while a baby is trapped in the same fire because "it's the law". The same thing with EMS - no other squad would spend 7 years working with MONOC to create a volunteer paramedic program and then having 2 members doing 12 hour shifts AT ALL TIMES so that paramedics are available for the lakewood community. EVERY OTHER SQUAD was and still is perfectly happy with the status quo of waiting forever for medics and doing the best if they aren't available.
Again your dedication as a Fire fighter is greatly appreciated. But if God forbid my house is on fire and my kids are trapped, please please don't worry so much about every detail of title 39....just get there as quickly & safely (yes even Hatzolah worries about safety when responding) as possible - Don't worry I won't tell Wilson

Anonymous said...

If this is true then wilson should be fired . A civilian should have the right to speak his conscience and tell a police officer that he will be reported to a supervisor for something that the civilian feels is wrong on the PO part . If the Po just takes revenge on such a comment by issuing a summons ,then he does not have good judgement .

I have almost had a close call when two cops stick on their lights & block West County line road at dawn just to get out & shmooze with each other, same goes on all over. They abuse their lights and actually endanger others on corners of Clifton Ave, too.
If you dare video them...
Don't sell me the cops risk their life etc, they have a well paying job, which they chose. & use our cars to drive to donut stores etc. How about drain uncloggers are you aware that they have a larger fatality rate than cops, does anyone respect the suerguy more than the cop. Give me a brake. Cops are unfortunate necesity.
I heard as a kid already that there is fine line between a cop & a criminal, as all know it takes one to know one.
well if this cop will start ticketing all cops who abuse parking rules & cop lights, he would be doing his job, but ticketing an EMt is probably abusing his job.
I for one want him fired.

I don't think Lakewood First Aid members are allowed to go with their private cars to the scene. They have to go to the garage and go with the ambulance unless they are passing the scene so they probably wouldn't get into trouble or have this problem.

Anonymous said...

Thats why it takes the average first aid squad much longer to get to the scene than Hatzolah . Hatzolah was founded by Mr weber for just this reason . He saw somebody collapse and die in front of his eyes while waiting too long for the NYC ems to arrive . Of course the EMS does their best . we recognize that . But if a community wants to do better ,it should certainly be allowed to ,without interference from a patrolman who decided that he knows exactly how many EMs members should be there .
