First of all I would like to say that you g...11:45,
First of all I would like to say that you guys are all nuts for running into burning buildings for little (paid) or no (vollie) pay. on behalf of every citizen of Lakeood you guys are not appreciated enough and deserve a big thank you!
As a witness to the entire incident, I would like to make a couple of quick points:
1) the EMT was not ticketed for the way he parked. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HOW HE PARKED IN THE FIRST PLACE AND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WAY HE PARKED AFTER WILSON TOLD HIM TO MOVE. He was ticketed for failing to obey a Police officer after he told Wilson that he would report him to a supervisor for delaying patient care and telling him that no more EMS was required.
2)Everyone should be on the same team but PO Wilson didn't seem to understand that. Instead of coming over and asking "what do you guys need?" he let his personal bias get in the way. It was clear by the way he acted that he could not understand the concept of one EMT after the next pulling up in their POVs.
3)The system of EMTs taking 10 minutes to get a rig (while waiting at red lights with their blue lights flashing) might be acceptable in other areas but is not accepatable in Lakewood where the community places a premium on the value of human life. You may feel good about putting your life on the line running into a fire but you would feel perfectly comfortable sitting at a red light while a baby is trapped in the same fire because "it's the law". The same thing with EMS - no other squad would spend 7 years working with MONOC to create a volunteer paramedic program and then having 2 members doing 12 hour shifts AT ALL TIMES so that paramedics are available for the lakewood community. EVERY OTHER SQUAD was and still is perfectly happy with the status quo of waiting forever for medics and doing the best if they aren't available.
Again your dedication as a Fire fighter is greatly appreciated. But if God forbid my house is on fire and my kids are trapped, please please don't worry so much about every detail of title 39....just get there as quickly & safely (yes even Hatzolah worries about safety when responding) as possible - Don't worry I won't tell WilsonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7968767325807262076.post-12498892908596951802009-08-25T12:06:35.812-04:002009-08-25T12:06:35.812-04:00WHERE WAS OFFICER BUTTERWORTH WHEN WE NEEDED HIM T...WHERE WAS OFFICER BUTTERWORTH WHEN WE NEEDED HIM THE MOST...OI VEYAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7968767325807262076.post-90226589742180445162009-08-25T11:45:49.129-04:002009-08-25T11:45:49.129-04:00AS A LONGTIME LAKEWOOD RESIDENT, AND A FIREFIGHTER...AS A LONGTIME LAKEWOOD RESIDENT, AND A FIREFIGHTER IN TOWN, I AGREE THAT THE POLICE DEPT. If you are really a cop for 25 years, you wo...9:42,
If you are really a cop for 25 years, you would realize that Hatzolah has been there for you for the last 25 years as well. There is a reason why Jason looked so uncomfortable and the other cops got the heck out of there so quickly on sunday.
You beleive in enforcing New Jersey State law? make sure to enforce it if Wilson should ever code on 2nd st. Takes quite a while to respond downtown - sitting at all those lights with the little blue flashing light. And then it takes quite some time to find a legal parking spot downtown so as not to create a "hazardous situation". Oh I forgot you can always call the real EMTs fron Pine & New Hampshire but one of their rigs is down again and the other rig is still waiting for a bed in the ER - you can always tone out the vollies 3 or 4 times and then have Quality start out from Toms River. Whoops - I forgot most of the cops have AEDs as well. Wilson probably knows that most of the guys didn't do that great on the EMT portion of the academy. After all they went into law enforcement to be cops not have someone vomit all over them in back of a rig. "you mean if he has no pulse we're suppossed to try to defib him?!?!" That would make a great eulogy for him "John was not just willing to enforce every detail of title 39 when it came to some poor shlub under a car - he was even willing to sacrafice his own life and made sure his buddies had every responding vehicle park perfectly before he was treated".
"Porky",
please explain what hazardous situation existed by an EMT aprking his vehicle at the curb of a side street after Clifton ave. was already shut down to traffic. Which other members were also told to move their vehicle prior to treating the patient who Wilson determined had "non life threatening" injuries. If that was the case then please take the time to explain which model of management is allowing Wilson to still be on the streets.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7968767325807262076.post-78144367761586201782009-08-25T08:33:51.212-04:002009-08-25T08:33:51.212-04:00I am sure just like most the comments on this blog...I am sure just like most the comments on this blog the cop if really a cop wrote it out of quick frustration knowing what the pd has to deal with and having a few but rude people say mean things about Wilson, he has given a lot to this community. As an Officer of the law it would be expected of you to display a little more common sense then to post threats in a public forum, such as "Game On!!!! Be prepared."

Adding to anon. 11:00 pm's comments, which definitely has a lot of truth to it, let me ask you; when was the last time you were referred to in our community as a” pig”? I don’t recall the lyrics of any of the music that my children listen to, talk about busting a cap in the po po. When was the last time, when on duty that you felt in danger when interacting with someone from the Jewish community?) Putting all this aside lets look at this objectively,

A number of bloggers responded negatively to this incident. Let’s keep in mind that not all of the comments were negative. What I mean by that is that disagreeing with the actions of the police officer in this story is everyone’s right and that does not make a comment negative. How one chooses to disagrees is a different story. If they choose to post idiotic and immature comments then that would constitute calling a comment negative. However, keep in mind that is their constitutionally protected prerogative. But in no way does the ranting of a few give you the right to trample on the rights of the many.

You write; “If you want to live in the state of New Jersey, you need to abide by the laws of the state of New Jersey. Just because you are Jewish does not mean that you do not have to obey laws. Anytime a police officer looks at a person of the Jewisih Faith he is labeled as being anti-semetic. There is an easy answer...Obey the laws”

That’s a generalization if I ever heard one. Yes, there are Jewish people who may give you attitude when you pull them over. Just like there are “ “(please fill in the blank with any race, religion, ethnicity and/or combination as you see fit.) These people are wrong; and that’s were it ends. Now all Jews have a problem with the Police? I respect all Police Officers as do the vast majority of Jews living in Lakewood. You are an Officer of the law, sworn to protect, uphold and enforce the law, yet you seem to have forgotten the most basic rights us simple civilians retain, and dare to trample on this Nation’s great Constitution.

So how do you plan on implementing your new “game on, be prepared “approach?

Will you be asking people on future traffic stops if they read and post on TLS?

This is the worst kind of profiling I have ever seen.

To Chief Lawson;
I believe that it behooves you to find out who this Officer is and take appropriate action. I don’t claim to know the law but in the very least I think this is conduct unbecoming of an Officer. I and as I’m sure, the rest of the community certainly don’t condone breaking the law and then crying anti-Semitism. But we certainly feel that there may be anti-Semitism involved when an Officer can make statements about a community at large. Not to mention that the community in question is about the most peaceful, non violent and law abiding community you have ever served.

Please let us know if you disagree.

P.s. For those who don’t obey the law or who give attitude to a police officer when they pull you over, its time to grow up and take responsibility for your actions.Dear Chief Lawsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7968767325807262076.post-20441377132496368952009-08-25T02:30:07.300-04:002009-08-25T02:30:07.300-04:00Anon at 9:42
You claim to be a cop. Now I don'...Anon at 9:42
You claim to be a cop. Now I don't know if that's true or not. As a previous commenter pointed out;since you "have 25 years experience" under your belt, can you please tell us if you can even remember ONCE arresting an Orthodox Jew for ANY sort of violent activity,rape....? How about D.U.I.? Now don't think too hard there please! And you know what, go ahead and publish those videos on Youtube. I really would like to see the terrible things said to you at traffic stops. But maybe show us a nice gunfight in Woodlake,Highpoint,Golfview...too. Do you maybe have any videos of the 15 year old stabbing the other student at the close of the school year? How about the two Mexicans that were killing themselves on Clifton and 4th? Or the "brawl" in Golfview involving some 40 people?? Can you show us some videos of how a Non-Jewish guy reacts when his car gets rear-ended or the like? Yeah I know things can get just a bit violent sometimes. We want to see the action too,you know.
Can you find me anywhere in this blog that someone inferred that because he's Jewish he is immune from obeying the law? The issue here is not about Jews receiving a ticket. The issue is that an EMT received a ticket while tending to a pedestrian struck. I don't believe you will ever catch an officer doing such a thing to a firefighter or Lakewood EMS unit so it seems like maybe this officer does indeed treat Jews differently. Now think about that honestly and don't just shoot your mouth off without giving it some serious thought. Do you seriously believe that Officer Wilson would have acted the same had this been a firefighter?? I think that is the ONLY issue here.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
