Senate President Stephen Sweeney?
Senate Democratic leader Stephen Sweeney has done little to quell speculation that he's after the most powerful spot in the New Jersey Legislature, that of Senate president. The post is held by Sen. Richard Codey of West Orange. Sweeney, who is from the southern New Jersey town of Thorofare, acknowledged wanting the job during a Monday appearance on Millennium Radio 101.5 FM. But he didn't say whether he would try to oust Codey when the Legislature reorganizes in January. He did say he would like to be Senate president "someday" and called it "a natural progression from where I am." Codey, who became Senate co-president in 2002, did not return a call for comment. AP
