O.C Health Department Prepared To Combat Swine Flu

The Ocean County Health Department is prepared to combat the H1N1 influenza virus through the summer and into the next flu season, officials announced Monday afternoon, at the same time confirming another six cases in the county. The county held a news conference to go over its preparedness and expectations for the virus, which it said is just as likely to remain mild and eventually fade away as it is to increase in severity and spread this fall and winter. "A lot of what we're doing is new to us," department spokeswoman Leslie Terjesen said. Of the six additional cases announced Monday, one was a non-school-age child from Tuckerton, while the others were children or adults from Toms River, Jackson Township and Lakewood. AP
