More School Districts Meeting Standards

New Jersey education officials say more school districts are meeting requirements under federal school laws. The state on Wednesday said 39 of New Jersey's 590 operating school districts are on the list of "districts in need of improvement" because not enough students passed standardized tests. That's down from 53 last year and 60 the year before. Districts on the list must come up with plans to improve and use a portion of their federal grant money to train teachers and administrators. The 39 districts on the list include those in several of the state's biggest cities, including Newark, Jersey City, Trenton, Paterson, Elizabeth and Camden. Six districts scored well enough that they could get off the list next year. AP
