REPOSTED: Efforts To Stop Corzine From Keeping Needed Funds From Mosdos

REPOSTED UPON REQUEST. The Lakewood Scoop was requested by local Askanim to post the following message: There are a number of state-wide grants that benefit all Mosdos Hatorah. One of these grants is in danger of being cut out. Every year for the past ten years, the local Mosdos have been receiving from the State of New Jersey a very large grant that is earmarked for technology equipment for schools. This is a very important grant. Governor Corzine has introduced a budget eliminating the funding for this grant to non-public schools. (At the same time, the grant for public schools in New Jersey will see an increase of $291 million!) Every elementary Mosad Hatorah stands to be affected by this cut. Askonim have just been informed that if enough people call the Governor’s office to protest this cut, there is an excellent chance that the funding can be restored. However, the decisions in the Governor’s office are set to be finalized tomorrow, on Monday. Therefore, we ask that each parent call Governor Corzine’s office on Monday at (609) 292-6000. The switchboard opens at 8:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm. Together we can make a difference.

I called the number numerous times and no one picked up. Perhaps there is another number?

The phone lines were open from 8 to 6. The lines must have been jammed, because when I called and the lady who picked up the phone heard me ask if this was the GOvernor's office, she immediately asked me "Are you for or against?" without letting me finish my thought.
