When
Rosh Chodesh Iyar falls on a
Shabbos, as it does this year , this coming
Shabbos, one is permitted to take a haircut and shave on
Erev Shabbos in honor of the double
Simcha of
Shabbos and
Rosh Chodesh, even for those who are keeping
Minhagim of
Aveilus from
Pesach to Lag
Baomer.
Shulchan Aruch with
Mishnah Berurah 493:1 MB5. Although this a clear
Halacha, we encourage our readers to always check with their local
Rav. Thank you
RG.

Is this so even if you're usually makpid on R' Yehudah Hachosid?
Its a machlokes haposkim if you're noheig like R' Yehuda haChosid.
most people dont hold like r yehudah hachasid they just follow it out of ignorance. RYH is not a chumraha its more like a minhag which is not passed down to most people for some reason it took hold in the yeshiva world. so if your just following it because you dont know why you can prob stop your welcome to currect me if i'm wrong but i spoke to a rav in lakewood about it and this was the jist of it
Have a look at Sefer Shmiras HaGuf Chelek Aleph, Siman Samech Ches, Seif Vav, who quotes Rav Moshe, & the Chasam Sofer that even if one is noheig like RYH, R.Chodesh Iyar is different. Pls don't dismiss RYH. MB quotes him many times L'Halacha including this one. Kol Tuv
The Steipler & the Chazon Ish, on the other hand, both prohibited shaving/haircuts on Erev Shabbos Rosh Chodesh Iyar in deference to R' Yehuda HaChossid.
