New Jersey's state government is offering work for unemployed lawyers and recent law school graduates. The only catch: it's unpaid. The volunteer lawyers would be asked to work at least 20 hours a week for three months for the state Division of Law. They would mostly do research and brief writing in areas ranging from child protection to public utilities. Those who are members of the state bar could do trial work. Attorney General's Office spokesman David Wald says it's the first time New Jersey has offered the program. He says it could be a good option for lawyers who have been laid off or are having trouble launching their careers. AP
