Woman Accused Of Assault On LPD Officer Eric Menck, Gets Into Trouble Again

Just days after being sentenced to three years probation and ordered to serve 100 hours of community service following a trial for charges stemming from a 2005 assault on Lakewood Patrolman Erik Menck, Nicole M. Robinson, 33, was arrested at Kimball Medical Center for prescription fraud. She was arrested on Sunday after she attempted to fill a prescription given to her there that day by a hospital doctor for 20 oxycodone pills, police said. The prescription had been printed by a computer and was altered to indicate it included one refill, authorities said. The printer put a check mark on the no-refill line, and a "1" was written in pen inside a circle on the line indicating the number of refills. The pharmacist checked with the issuing doctor and no refills were ordered, police said. Robinson was processed and released on a summons, according to the complaint. Robinson testified in her trial in Superior Court, Toms River that Menck beat her for at least 20 minutes when he came to her home to arrest her for an earlier incident. APP

Corzine Gaining A Little Ground

A new poll finds Gov. Jon Corzine gaining a little ground on his Republican challenger with three months to go in the New Jersey governor's race. The Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pee-ack) University poll out Tuesday has Corzine trailing ex-prosecutor Chris Christie by 9 percentage points, 51-42 percent, among likely voters. A mid-July poll gave Christie a 53-41 percent lead. Christie's lead shrinks to 6 percentage points when independent candidate Chris Daggett is factored in. The poll indicates Corzine has shored up his Democratic base, but Christie still leads more than 2-to-1 among voters not affiliated with either party. The telephone survey of 1,167 likely New Jersey voters was conducted Aug. 5-9 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points. AP

Christie Leads Corzine By Double-Digits

After two months worth of heavy campaigning and fierce attacks aimed at his opponent New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine is essentially back to where he began. A new Rasmussen poll has Corzine trailing Republican nominee Chris Christie by a margin of 50-37%. The thirteen-point spread shows a widening gap between the two candidates and comes as unpleasant news to the sitting Democratic Governor who seemed to be on the rebound just a month ago. Examiner

NJ Considers Limits On Herring

New Jersey is considering limits on the herring and shad that fishermen can keep from the Delaware River. The Environmental Protection Department has proposed reducing the daily limit on alewife and blueback herring from 35 to 10 per person. The limit on American shad would go from six to three. Officials say the limits are needed to help replenish the supply. The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission in May ruled that river herring fishing must stop at the end of 2011 unless a state can show its stock will continue to grow. The DEP has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed limits for Sept. 8. AP

Historic Change Coming To Bais Eliyahu

Ever since its inception the Bais Eliyahu Bais Medrash of Bais Medrash Govoha has been home to Chaburas learning a wide array of Mesechtos, Halachos and other Limudim. One Limud that was not being learned, was the Yeshiva’s Mesechta-as the Chaburas of Bais Eliyahu were primarily geared to those who had moved on from the Yeshiva’s Limud. With the continuous growth of BMG, the need for more seating becomes greater every Zman. The greatest need for seats is always in the Batei Medrashim that learn the Yeshiva’s Limud as almost all of the new Bachurim entering BMG learn the Yeshiva’s Limud. On this note, the Yeshiva has placed signs in the various Batei Medrashim over Bein Hazemanim that Bais Eliyahu will no longer be for other Limudim but rather will be set aside for the learning of the Yeshiva’s Mesechta.

A teenager was charged with felonies and three others were arrested after a fight on Friday night in the parking lot of the Mountain Fruits Store on Broadway. Police say David Dookerman, 16, of Monticello drove to the rear of the store intending to confront the store manager, Aryeh Simkin, 20, of Brooklyn. He called him out, then began striking Simkin’s 2008 Acura with a stick. When Simkin came outside, Dookerman hit him with a stick and then Simkin, T.C, 20, of Lakewood, and Y.L, 20, of Monsey, shoved Dookerman to the ground and hit him several times, police say. Dookerman then got back into his Wind Star and tried to run over Simkin, then smashed into a dumpster, knocking it over. He rammed another car, then wedged the Wind Star between a freezer and the rear of the store building, damaging both. Troopers and Monticello police arrested him at the scene. Dookerman was charged with attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and assault, felonies, and several misdemeanors. He was taken to the Sullivan County jail on $35,000 bail. Corzine Trying To Prove There's Nothing Money Can't Buy

Jon Corzine has launched a series of vicious attacks on Chris Christie, the Republican challenger in this year's hotly contested race. By launching "Christie Facts" Corzine has established quite clearly that he believes no level of utter failure can defeat what he has in his wallet. Corzine also weighing heavily on Obama coattails. One of the Christie "facts" is that Christie has "Conservative right-wing values" and one menacing header declares "Christie Partners With Right Wing Republicans. Corzine Partners with Obama." Corzine relies on the hope that no one has figured out that Obama is far more radical Left than anyone Christie has ever dealt with. Just because was colored blue doesn't mean that even half of the same people who voted for Obama will come up for Corzine. Read full article in Examiner.

PRV Development Age Restriction Lifting Passed

At last night's township meeting the ordinance to change the age restriction in the PRV (Pine River Village) development was passed. The ordinance stipulated a fee of 5,000 per house as remuneration to the township. The township committee members agreed with Deputy Mayor Steve Langert that while it is agreed by all parties that the town will be compensated, the actual amount will be decided based on professional appraisals, and the 5,000 figure is not final. It was a pleasant meeting now that the discussion about whether or not there should be a fee at all has been resolved, with the only issue remaining is the amount.

Attn Gun Owners: Limit One Gun Purchase Per 30 Days

Gov. Jon Corzine today will sign legislation that prohibits individuals from purchasing more than one handgun within a 30-day period. The measure also prohibits firearms sellers from "knowingly delivering" more than one gun per 30-day period. Violators would face a fourth-degree felony charge, carrying a $10,000 penalty. The law, aimed at helping curtail gun access by criminal street gangs, would exempt law enforcement agencies and federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who purchase a handgun for use in the actual performance of their law enforcement duties. It also would exempt transfers of guns between licensed retail dealers and licensed firearms collectors. Star Ledger

Things seem to move out of focus quickly in our hectic lives, yet it was just a short week ago when we were rocked by a massive Chillul Hash-m throwing us all into disarray. We shouldn't dwell on the painful past, but we should not lose the inspiration for bettering ourselves either. The Vilna Goan writes that when one does an aveira, not only are they held accountable for the actual sin, but they are also responsible for what good they could have done had they not been preoccupied with the aveira. It seems likely that should we fail to improve ourselves when confronted with such an evident shortcoming, it would be all the more contemptible. If a Yid, chas v’shalom, is found guilty of doing something illegal, it is not buried discreetly into the police blotter. The Yeshiva, under the leadership of Rabbi Mordechai Dabbah Shlita had plans to move it's 4th through 8th grades over from Lakewood to Deal-(being that most of the boys from the higher grades are from Deal), upon the request of Deal community leaders-including Rabbi Diomond Shlita, as reported exclusively on TLS here. However, after parents complained about having to commute from Lakewood to Deal, the classes will remain in Lakewood. The Menahel, Harav Tzvi Zev Shwartz Shlita confirmed to The Lakewood Scoop (although things may change) that only classes Primary through 2nd grade will be opening in Deal this coming school year with just children from Deal. (Primary through 3rd grade in Lakewood, will consist only of Lakewood children. We will keep you updated with all further information as it develops.

The wires appear to belong to Verizon and the company was notified to respond as soon as possible. If you are traveling down Route 9, you may want to find an alternate route as traffic may be heavy in the area.
